several thoughts

Thought 1: so i'm reading this book for class it's called Shame of a Nation by Jonathan Kozol. Its about the public education system in the US and how it is so divided where you have great public schools that are really preparing kids well to go on and lead a successful life, and you have this other education system where you are setting kids up to drop out and perpetuate this horrible cycle. When i read these books it makes me wonder why our society that is supposed to be leading on so many ways (or at least was until sort of recently) can't manage to get their act together. Segregation was supposed to have ended during the civil war but yet you still have schools that are 90% African American and Hispanic, where teachers haven't taught a white kid in 8 years that have one functioning bathroom in the whole school and three classrooms don't even have books. This seems injust to me.

Thought 2: I'm working on this breakfast initiative program in an school in west philadelphia, and I'm frustrated because I can't take more control. I wish I didn't have to work through a middle man.

Thought 3: We had seminars in FNL today, I wasn't that excited, but I really enjoyed mine. I went to one about the New Testament(NT) with Pastor Fred. We talked about the history of the NT and about why people argue that it is not real and such. It was an interesting discussion. I think I should not let people just tell me there are so many arguments agaisnt it and start asking for examples so then I can just use their unbelief as a way to explain what I believe. hmm.

Thought 4: I wish that when I hang out with guys there wouldn't be an implication other than that we are friends. I miss the days when I used to hang out with Clint and Bob and no one would say anything and nothing was implied. We were just good friends that hung out and were close. I wish things could be like that sometimes.

Thought 5: This friend I made recently is leaving for 6 months and I didn't even say goodbye properly. Fail.

Thought 6: I was reminded recently of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo It's Randy Pausch's last lecture- thought provoking

That is all for now.
