crazy life in clinical research.

6:00 am: alarm goes off. I hit the snooze button

6:10 am:alarm goes off again. I hit the snooze button.

6:20 am: alarm goes off...again. I hit the snooze button. scratch that. I turn the alarm off.

6:30 am: alarm goes off. my alarm clock has 2 alarm settings. sony predicted my inability to wake up during the summer of 2009. I digress. Snooze again.

alarm A : alarm B

6:40 am: alarm goes off. I get out of bed for if I do not I will not make it to work in time for rounds. Shower, get ready. Black pants button down shirt. And then I r
emember I work in a children's hospital. Gray pants, nice cotton blouse.
we're happy, kid friendly people :)

7:20 am: leave for work.

sometime between 8:00 and 8:30am: pull into work. drive up and down the employee parking garage. find one spot open. pull in. pull back out. try again. SUV's parked in compact car
spots = tight fit for an actual compact car. hope that the owner of the SUV is not hefty, heavy, big boned, etc. because they will not be able to get in their car. :/
not real image- but pretty close- think 8 story parking garage.

8:45 am: finally clock in. get much needed cup of coffee. get into office.

keurig: my caffeine salvation this summer

8:55 am: check watch. must be in the PICU in 5 minutes. put my coffe down. plug in computer. get papers out of files. wait for computer to boot up.

9:00 am: run down to PICU. trials.

11:00 am: wow 2 hrs has gone by. sit down at my desk. pick up coffee. drink coffee. cold. go heat up coffee.

microwave: second caffeine salvation this summer.

11:05 am: get called back down to PICU. trials.

12:00 pm: putting in data from morning trials in computer. thinking of lunch. co-workers going to meet the race car drivers that came today. must get ready for 1:00 pm meeting. no lunch. no hot race car drivers.

1:00 pm: meeting. so productive- decide to keep everything in the protocol the same. oh, but add morning rounds for Priscila in the morning so that we can recruit more patients and add one more data sheet- for Priscila to create.

2:00 pm: go upstairs to make data sheet.

2:15 pm: can't concentrate- too hungry- go downstairs get food (free at least!)- finish datasheet/eat lunch.

3:00 pm: go to PICU to place datasheet. Look in on study patient- tons of nurses, curtains closed, stuff on the floor. ignore possible patient crashing. go back upstairs because I'll just be in the way anyway. don't get sheet looked at.

3:15 pm: send page to Dr. to call me when he is free. decide to work on data input.

3:45 pm: Dr. still hasn't called. tired of data input. cubicle partner is packing to leave for the day. Send e-mail: "leaving for the day, be back tomorrow".

actually i just sent that e-mail to myself. but it made me feel better.
4:10 pm: pull out of parking space. car still in tact, no new dings, scratches, or dings! :D off for my 50 minute drive home. turn on the radio- blast it. open the windows- sunny, beautiful day. at least i only missed 1/2 of it :D
